Landscapes: watercolours, oils and acrylic paintings
Portraits: paintings, drawings and prints
What you need to know if you want a portrait
Sitting for a portrait could be a stressful experience and taking time out to sit for a portrait may not fit into your busy schedule. Consequently I generally find that the best solution is to work from a range of photos, and if required, to finish the work with a single sitting.
My prefered medium is oilpaint on canvas or board although I can work equally well in acrylics. Small pieces are usually on paper.
The finished work will be presented to you unframed - work on paper with a card mount. Choosing a frame is a very personal thing so I generally leave this to you, however, if you require advice I am happy to help.
Paintings in oils, acrylic and prints
Prices
All prices are negotiable, however, as a guide, depending on the complexity of the composition prices for creating single pieces range from £250.
The size of the work doesn't necessarily affect the price; however, complex works will cost more.

I have known Charles since he was age 20. He is one of those rare artistic talents whose skills span a broad spectrum of the arts.
He studied both Fine Art and Ceramics before deciding in which area to specialise. Although an excellent potter he decided his first love was painting and gained a B.A in Fine Art in 1975. Realising how hard it is to make a living in the art world, pragmatism won out and he decided to do his PGCE so he could teach alongside working as an artist.
His early career saw him teaching, raising a family and painting commissioned art works as well as having paintings regularly exhibited in Harrogate galleries where he lived. Fascinated by history, geography and culture, one of his strongest childhood impressions was seeing a picture of the "Venus of Willdendorf" at about 11 yrs old, and being really impressed he set about making one of his own, having previously dug up a pile of clay from the garden.
"This little statuette epitomises my love of the abstraction of form at the heart of representational art and yet I equally love the depiction of the subtleties of the detail. I like to do both representational and abstract painting; I am interested in trying to capture the balance between the impressionistic and the realistic. In abstract painting its more about the relationship of form, textural brushwork and colour".
After teaching and painting for a decade, Charles then decided it was time to leave teaching behind as it was taking him further away from his work as an artist. He left teaching and set up as a freelance artist/illustrator and added designing greetings cards to his skill base. Some of these aroused the interest of a computer games company Mythos Games and Charles was headhunted to work for them.
This led to acquiring a whole new set of skills in computer graphics and C.G.I - computer generated imagery and animation.
A change in fortune in the computer games company led to its demise and Charles found himself redundant, and he felt at this point it would be a good opportunity to pick up his practical art skills again. This led to his current occupation which involves creating surface-pattern designs for the interior design industry for products such as wall papers, tiled wall and floor surfaces. He sells these designs all over the world through his agent Desmond Lewis Designs who are a very well established world renowned agency based in Germany.
Alongside this Charles continues his painting..
